How to Create Realistic Car Lights in Photoshop : In this tutorial you will learn how to create believable realistic car lights using color dodge blending mode technique. This effect gives natural lightning if the image is bright than the effect is less intense and if the image is dark the light will be more intense just like in real world scenario…
How to Creating Realistic Car Lights in Photoshop
Step 1: Open the image in Photoshop & create a new layer and fill it with black color than change the layer blending mode to ‘Color Dodge’. I will name it ‘Layer One’.
Step 2: Now take a hard rounded brush and make a circle over the car headlight with white color by clicking once. As show in the image below.
Step 3: Now go to Filter>Blur> Gaussian Blur and apply blur of around 15.5. If you working on different image than play with the blur slider until it looks good.
Step 4: Now the process is pretty much the same. Create a new layer and again fill it with black color and change it’s blending mode to ‘Color Dodge’
Step 5: Again make a white circle with hard white color brush over the same spot. But this time make a bigger circle as compared to previous one as shown in image below.
Step 6: Now again go to Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur and apply the appropriate blur amount. Repeat step 5 & 6 for both sides of the headlight.
Step 7: This time we will create atmospheric light effect over and around the headlight to add extra level of realism. Create a new layer and name it to “Atmospheric Light” and fill it with black color by going to Edit>Fill and selecting black color. Change layer blending mode to ‘Color Dodge’.
Step 8: Now take a hard brush and paint roughly over the both headlights and also make sure that full headlight and some area around the headlight too is covered with white color as shown in image below.
Step 9: Now again go to Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur and apply the appropriate amount of blur.
Step 10: For the fog lights the method is pretty much the same. Just make a new layer fill it with black color and change it’s blending mode to ‘Color Dodge’. Also add atmospheric light effect for fog lights same as we created for headlights in Step 7. If you want to see how I created fog lights than please refer to the video tutorial.
Final Result: Below is the final image. As you can see the headlights are believable and realistic and also the amount of light brightness is according to the scene brightness. If the scene is more dark or night time, than the lights would have been more brighter.
